Duane Schlatter

Duane Schlatter, 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 3, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with heart disease. Despite his nearly lifelong health problems, Duane owned and operated his own tool and die company and was a master at the trade.  His love for the trade and Notre Dame was rivaled only by his love for his kids.  In 1990 Duane and his family were given the gift of nearly 26 additional years of his life through a heart-transplant. It was a gift for which we will be forever grateful.  Duane was predeceased by his parents Lucille and Clifford Schlatter, a brother, Roger Schlatter and a brother-in-law, Bob Young. 

Surviving him are two sisters, Joanne (John) Stieren and Donna Young, a brother, Lynn Schlatter, two sons, Clifford (Melanie) Schlatter, Jason (Jeannie) Schlatter, a daughter Carmen Schlatter and a stepdaughter Deeana (Tim) Marshall, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 6, at 6:00 p.m. with calling from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, at Westview Alliance Church, 9804 Illinois Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, 5910 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46814 or to the family c/o Westview Alliance Church, for end-of-life expenses.
