Sandy Knox Obituary

Sandra Knox, age 59, passed away on May 2, 2025, at her home in Spruce, Michigan with her beloved husband Russell and her faithful cat Jorge at her side following a fierce battle with cancer.

Sandy was the youngest of 6 children born to the late Warren and Clara Hughes. While originally from Michigan, she spent most of her life residing and having fun in Kendallville with Russ and her 2 children, Stephanie (Keister) Dowe and Chris Knox. One of their favorite family activities was ‘We Be Tight Night’. She loved working with children at the YMCA preschool followed by many years spent at Oak Farm Montessori School, where she thrived introducing children to the wonderful world of nature.

Sandy loved her family, including her ‘Sters, the many cats that were lucky enough to find her home, all things Christmas, good 80’s music, shopping with her friends, crafting, birds, and taking hikes in nature. After moving to Northern Michigan, she developed a love for the beauty and peacefulness of Lake Huron, regardless of the season. She was known for her spectacular sense of humor and her contagious smile. Everyone who knew her loved her uplifting and joyous spirit. She prided herself on her uncanny ability to Name That Tune or quote nearly any of her favorite movies. But once her 3 grandchildren arrived (Finley, Beckham and Sutton Dowe), they became her ‘Prize and Joy’. She loved having Gamma Camp with them, whether it be in her own backyard or vacationing to Traverse City to climb the Dunes with the whole Dowe crew.

She is survived by her husband Russell of nearly 34 years, her mini-me daughter Stephanie and her husband Justin and their 3 children, her ‘Ster Beth and her brother Mickey. Many others have preceded her in death, including her beloved son Christopher Knox.
