Russell DeCamp Obituary

Russell Lee DeCamp, age 87, of Kendallville, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Orchard Pointe Healthcare in Kendallville. Russell was born on December 11, 1935 to the late Bernard Lawrence and Veulah Loretta (Scheurich) DeCamp. He was raised on a farm in Green Township, Indiana and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1953. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1958-1960 in Germany. On June 9, 1957, he married Bonnie Louise Biddle at Blue River Church of the Brethren near Columbia City. Russell was a faithful employee of Puritan Ice Cream in Kendallville for 30 years and the City of Kendallville Street Department for 16 years before retiring in 2001. He was an avid armchair sports fan. He was a lifelong Detroit Tiger fan and loved watching college basketball. He enjoyed attending all his granddaughter's sporting events and activities. Russell was a baseball coach with the Kendallville Youth Baseball League for many years in the past. He was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed.  

Survivors include:
Wife, Bonnie DeCamp of Kendallville. 
Daughter, Melinda and Tom Gatton of Kendallville.
Son, Brian and Jodi DeCamp of Kendallville.
Special AFS son, Ger de Bruyn of The Netherlands, whom he also remained close over the years. 
Six granddaughters, Elizabeth and Evan Edwards of Indianapolis, Indiana; Meredith and Cory Morgan of Meridian, Mississippi; Brianna and Ryan Bollier of Genoa, New York; Claire DeCamp and Clint Hoffar of Salt Lake City, Utah; Paige DeCamp of Mequon, Wisconsin; Kathryn DeCamp of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Five great grandchildren: Elijah, Arienne, Xavier Edwards and Charles Morgan and Parker Morgan.  
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Veulah DeCamp, his brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Kitty (Carter) DeCamp; nephew, Skyler DeCamp; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Keith and Dona Biddle; sister-in-law, Nancy (Biddle) Kline.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. 
Funeral services will be held graveside on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville. 
Memorial donations to Kendallville Youth Baseball League.
