Roxie Porter Obituary

Roxie (Hicks) Porter, age 78, of Kendallville, passed away at home on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Roxie was born April 27, 1946, at War, West Virginia to the late Sam and Rhoda (Ramey) Hicks. Both parents preceded her in death. Roxie attended Big Creek High School until moving to Indiana in the 11th grade. She graduated from Salem Center High School near South Milford.

She met and married Chet High and together they had three daughters, Vicki, Kim and Susan Leanne. One did not have to know Roxie very long to know that she loved her three girls more than life itself! Later in life, she married George Probst and he preceded her in death as well. She later married Alford Porter. 

Roxie was always known for her exceptional organizational skills and hard work ethic. She loved Jesus, her family, a clean home, painting, gardening, and dancing. She had such a strong presence about her, and she will forever be missed but never forgotten. 

Her family that she leaves behind includes:
Daughter, Vicki and Rob Slone of Kendallville.
Daughter, Kimberly Simpson of Kendallville.
Daughter, Susan Leanne High of Garrett.
7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. 

Stepdaughter, Cindy and Brian Kolbe of Garrett.
Stepdaughter, Charity and Rich Wisel of Garrett.
Stepson, Chad and Bobbie Porter of Waterloo.
Stepson, Joe and Teresa Selby of Avilla.
Stepson, Mark Selby of Albion.
Stepson, Steven and Paula Selby of Garrett.
Stepdaughter, Nancy Cousino, deceased. 
22 step grandchildren and 24 step great grandchildren. 

Sister, Bonnie and Ralph DePew of Florida. 
Sister, Fristeen Handshoe of Tennessee.
Sister, Peggy Bolen of Virginia.
Sister, Barbara Howard of Auburn.
Brother, Leon Hicks of Kendallville.
Sister, Faye Centers of Ohio.

Roxie was one of 14 siblings. Siblings who preceded her in death are sisters, Louise Mullins and Dixie Donaldson; and brothers, Ancil Hicks, Isador Hicks, Jack Hicks, Hancie Hicks, and Axley "Tuttie" Hicks. 

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Hite Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Mosley officiating.

Burial will take place at Sweet Cemetery near Albion. Casket bearers will be Rob Slone, Nate Slone, Dustin Pulver, Mason Castle, Bobby Bolen and Ernie Vance with Reece Slone and Layne Pulver as honorary bearers.
