Bob worked for Rea Magnet Wire Company for 39 years and retired in 1998. He enjoyed vacations with his family and watching all his grandchildren’s sports and school activities.  Bob also enjoyed reading and writing poetry. He was a member and vice president of Northeast Indiana POETS Club and was a published author of many poems. He wrote about his youthful experiences growing up, and his journey through life in the Fort Wayne area and the Hoosier State. He is survived by his wife Mary, together for 62 years; three children Christa Bowers, Julie (Roger) Lewis, Jeff (Sharon) Ummel; his nine grandchildren Corey Bowers, Courtney Hart, Casey Bowers, Matthew Lewis, Trisha Lewis, Robert Tracey, Emily Ummel, Kathryn Ummel, and Jonathan Ummel; two great grandchildren Rowan Hart and Vida Bowers; one sister Joy Waldron. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Bill Ummel, Jim Ummel and Richard Ummel and one sister Martha Radkoski.  He will be greatly missed by his family, his many nieces and nephews that he enjoyed and loved so much, and by his friends. He will be dearly remembered by all those he touched with his kind words and conversations. A celebration of his life will be held in the Spring of 2022. Rest in peace, Dad.

“…Time gives as it takes, you try to mend your mistakes. Life counts you to the end, to hear once more that laugh. Look at all those photographs, hear the song book of a wren, if I could do it all again. Yes, if only I could do it all again.” -Excerpt from “If I Could Do It All Again” by Robert Ummel
