Richard Walter (Dick) Schweizer, age 89, died on Monday, May 20, 2019, at Parkview Hospice. He was born in Fort Wayne on April 15, 1930, the son of the late Karl A. and Gertrude L. (Kroemer) Schweizer. He graduated from South Side High School with the class of ’48, served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and then completed his undergraduate degree at Indiana University in 1957. He retired from the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company after 33 years of service during which he earned both the CLU and ChFC professional designations. During his years at Lincoln, he also served in leadership capacities with several national insurance industry organizations. Dick enjoyed woodworking, repairing anything around the house which needed fix’en, a little bit of golf, and following IU basketball. He was a very active lifelong Lutheran serving in each congregation to which he belonged in numerous capacities and offices, including 75 years of church choir participation. He was most recently a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Beverly; son John (Diane), of North Port, FL; daughters Stephanie (Chris) Welbaum, Elizabeth Struckholz, Cynthia (Jim) Gabbard and Kathleen (Kevin) Martin, all of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a sister, LaDonna (Arthur) Keck.
A funeral service will be held at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 450 West Washington Blvd., at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2019, with visitation in the Church Fireside Room beginning at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be made in the Columbarium at the Church. Memorials may be made to Trinity English Lutheran Church marked for the Care Ministries or the Youth Ministries Fund, the American Cancer Society, or the American Lung Association in Indiana.
