Phyllis Jean Balzer, age 91, of Kendallville, died Friday, April 30, 2021 at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville. Mrs. Balzer was born in Garrett, Indiana on October 20, 1929 to the late Ralph W. and Beulah Helen (Hawk) DePew. She graduated from Garrett High School in 1947 and married Harry W. Balzer, Jr. on February 13, 1952. Harry preceded her in death on September 6, 2005. Phyllis was employed as a teacher’s aide at Northside Elementary School and member of the Church of God in Kendallville.
Survivors include:
Son, Craig and Deborah Balzer of Avilla.
Daughter, Sara Biddle of Kendallville
Daughter, Nancy and Ron Richter of Rome City.
Eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Thomas Balzer in 2013; grandson, James; sisters, Ruth Elaine Berryhill and Marybelle Fee; and a brother, David DePew.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home with visitation from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM prior to the service.
Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Regan Ford.
Burial will take place at Christian Union Cemetery near Garrett.
Memorial donations may be made to the Church of God.
