In Loving Memory of Peter John “Pete” Crewe
October 30, 1931 - July 2, 2025
Peter John Crewe, lovingly known as Pete, passed away peacefully at his home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at the age of 93, with his daughters by his side. Born in Recife, Brazil, Pete brought warmth, generosity, and an indomitable spirit everywhere he went.
Pete retired from Tokheim after many dedicated years of service, but his legacy extends far beyond his career. A passionate tennis player, Pete helped bring wheelchair tennis to Fort Wayne through Turnstone, helping to make the sport more accessible and inclusive. In recognition of his many contributions to tennis, he was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame in 2014 at Wildwood Racquet Club.
Pete never met a stranger. With a kind heart, a welcoming smile, and a gift for connecting with others, he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and compassion.
He was preceded in death by Marilyn A. Crewe and his grandson Benjamin J. Gelling. He is survived by his three daughters: Suzanne Swan (Jim) of Leoma, TN; Gloria Mahon (Gary) of Fort Wayne, IN; and Marina Gelling of Rowlett, TX. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time. Pete’s family invites those who knew him to honor his memory in their own way–perhaps by picking up a tennis racket, sharing a story, or simply offering kindness to someone else.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
