Pat Meier

Carolyn Patricia "Pat" Meier, age 98, of Avilla, Indiana, died on Monday, Dec. 23, 2024. Pat was born on April 1, 1926, in Swanton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Alfred Meier; and two sisters, Phyllis Meier and Virginia Meier Roth.

Beyond the Lord Jesus, the great love of her life was music and specifically the piano.

At an early age, Pat took lessons from her cousin Lorraine Houser. Houser charged $1 for Pat and her sisters. Pat's mother saw that she and her sisters practiced the piano faithfully. Pat continued to play piano 30-60 minutes most days on her beloved upright Steinway.

Pat's mother insisted that Pat and her sisters play a second instrument and play in the Swanton, Ohio, high school band. The three girls all played the trumpet. However, Pat went on to play five instruments: piano, baritone, trumpet, French horn and organ. Pat's mother also taught her and her sisters to sing parts which led to the Meier Trio. The Meier sisters sang together through grade school, high school and college. They sang in many churches, colleges and Bible conferences, such as Beulah Beach (Christian and Missionary Alliance).

Pat attended Fort Wayne Bible Institute, Defiance College, Wheaton College, and graduated from Hillsdale College with a BA in 1949.

Pat taught organ at Houghton College, New York. She was an organist for Rapids Christian Chapel, Lockport, New York. At Fort Wayne Alliance Community Church, she was pianist and organist for 25 years. Pat was also Avilla United Methodist Church Music Director.

Pat played at numerous weddings, had many piano and organ students and played at several area nursing homes. Pat was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for 50 years. Her music will be missed.

Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, at noon, at Alliance Community Church, 5610 Lahmeyer Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835, with one hour visitation before the service.
