Michael Hackett Obituary

Michael D. Hackett, age 86, of Adams Lake, Wolcottville, died Monday, January 13, 2025, at home. Michael was born in Kendallville, Indiana on March 10, 1938, to the late John Hackett and Virginia (Hall) Hackett Owens. He was a building contractor and owned Hackett Construction for many years. He was also employed with Reith & Riley. He married the love of his life, Leeanne Sue Coney, on June 19, 1956, at Faith United Methodist Church in Kendallville. Mike and Leeanne were married for 68 years before she preceded him in death on November 23, 2024. She was his world, and they spent all their time together. They built and owned the Shell Mart in Kendallville together which Leeanne operated for many years. 

Mike loved to race snowmobiles and was a member of the Indiana Snowmobile Association. He was also a member of Sons of the American Legion Post 381 in Rome City. He loved spending time with his family and friends on Adams Lake and spending winters with Leeanne at Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Mike was a great fisherman and also loved watching NASCAR. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leanne Coney Hackett; father, John Hackett; mother, Virginia (Hall) Hackett Owens; stepfather, Wallace "Dub" Owens; his in-laws, Oren and Mildred Coney; and his son-in-law, David Leo Jones. 

Survivors include:
Daughter, Kim Willits of LaGrange. 
Daughter, Susan Jones of Eve Lake, Wolcottville.
Daughter, Lisa Smith of Adams Lake.
Four grandchildren: Amber and Matt Palmer of Wolcottville; Jennifer Smith of Wolcottville; Cameron and Melissa Norris of Fort Wayne; and Jill and Blake Hire of Adams Lake. 
Eleven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. 
Special former son-in-law, Allen Willits of Adams Lake. 

A celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date.
