Matthew Schmidt

Matthew Joel Schmidt, age 39, of Albion, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Parkview North Hospital in Fort Wayne. Matt was born in Fort Wayne on April 29th, 1982 to the late Joseph Schmidt and Brenda (Flick) Schmidt. He was a graduate of Central Noble High School, class of 2002, after a tragic accident rendered him paralyzed from the chest down. He was always an optimistic person and found great joy in his family and friends. Despite his loss of freedom at such a young age, he never spoke a word of anger or resentment at his circumstances. He saw it as a trial to his faith and made the best of the cards that he had been dealt. He loved laughing and passing time with his nursing staff and always wanted to bring a smile to the face of every person he met. Matt loved his daughter, nieces, and nephew and was always happy to brag about them and show pictures of them to the people he saw each day. Matt was a great advocate of the Central Noble sports teams and attempted to make every home game that he could.

Daughter, Sydnee Morr of Elkhart, Indiana
Brother, Anthony Schmidt of Scott AFB, Illinois
Half-Brother, Arthur Willett of Johnson City, Tennessee
Nieces and Nephews: Jared Willett, Bethany Willett, and Lauren Schmidt
He was preceded in death by his half-brother Greg Willett in 1987 and his father Joseph Schmidt in 2003.

Due to current health situation his family intends to have a Celebration of Life in Matt’s honor in April 2022. Burial to take place April 2022 at Embry Cemetery near Garrett.
