Marjorie Wingfield

Marjorie Lee Wingfield, 88, of Fort Wayne fell asleep in Christ in the early hours of Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones. She fought valiantly against cancer and dementia within the last year. Through her baptism she is now awarded eternal life, rests in the very presence of our Lord and shares in His perfect peace. 

Marjorie was born and raised in Benton, Arkansas, to Roy and Bessie Bishop on Oct. 29, 1935. In the spring of 1953, she married her late husband Rev. Dr. Albert Wingfield before he began his service in the Navy during the Korean War. They were married for 65 years, residing all over the world: Arkansas, California, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Illinois, Detroit, Missouri and finally Fort Wayne. Marge and Al served as missionaries during their years in Hong Kong and Tokyo. During her 27 years as a Ft. Wayne resident, she worked as an administrative assistant for Concordia Theological Seminary, retiring in 2020. 

Marjorie had a deep love for Christ and His church, for her family and for her friends. Faith was the center of her life, and she invested much of herself in supporting her family and encouraging them in their faith. 

Marjorie was preceded in death by husband Albert; daughter Linda Krohn; her sister Gene Jerry; brothers Roy, Wayne and Jimmy Bishop; and great grandchild Boaz Krohn.

She is survived by her children Robert (Jeri) Wingfield, Phillip (Jeanne) Wingfield, son-in-law Kevin Krohn, Judy (Tim) Thoms, Carol (Dan) Oetting, Rebecca (Anthony) Marquart, 19 grandchildren and more than 20 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church (8811 St Joe Rd, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46835) Friday, December 29, 5-7 p.m. and Saturday, December 30, 10 a.m. with the funeral to commence at 11 a.m. The committal will immediately follow the service at Concordia Cemetery Gardens located at 5300 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be designated for Ascension Lutheran Church or Lutheran North High School (Macomb, Mich.) by noting the designation on the memo line of the check or on the envelope provided.
