Marjorie Heider passed peacefully from this life on August 10th, 2023 on what would have been her father’s 117th birthday, something she would have loved knowing. In the days immediately prior to death, she was visited by several family members and friends and received her last rites in the care facility where she went when her pain was no longer manageable at home. In the hours before she had to be moved from home, she enjoyed hearing the song “In the Garden”; it brought her great comfort, seemed to ease her pain, and bring her peace.
Known as Midge to family in her younger years and Marge to her friends in adulthood, Marjorie was in her 90th year when she breathed her last. The daughter of the late Laurence Ira Dalton and Marjorie Marguerite (Hannon) Dalton, Marjorie Emily Dalton was born on October 18th, 1932 in Maywood, Illinois. There she attended Proviso Township High School and excelled in the Secretarial training provided at that time. She worked for IPFW, as a Secretary in the Nursing Department, for well over 20 years before she finally retired.
Marge married Herbert Leo Heider on April 11, 1953 and together they raised three children. Marge and Herb stayed the entirety of their lives in the Great Lakes region, the last 45 years in the same house in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Herbert predeceased her in July 2017 and their daughter Marjorie Dianne Rushton passed away in March 2021; they were waiting to greet her on her arrival in the great hereafter.
Before her health prevented her from doing so, Marge was an avid churchgoer and greatly enjoyed singing in the Church Choir and participating in other church activities. A member of Trinity Episcopal Church for over 20 years, she will join Herbert and their daughter Dianne, in internment at the church.
Marge enjoyed gardening and discussing family history and genealogy with both family and friends; corresponding with many people both via email and postal mail. Her family stories will be sorely missed.
Marjorie is survived by her two remaining children, Robert (Susan) Heider of Whitestown, Indiana and Herbert Laurence Heider of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Four grandchildren, Nicholas (Maria) Heider of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Laura (Collin) Stroup of Zionsville, Indiana, Benjamin (Marcella) Heider of Monroe, Washington, and Zacharia (Sarah) Heider of Indianapolis, Indiana and four great grandchildren will also be mourning her loss as will other family members and her many friends.
Northern Indiana Funeral Care of Fort Wayne handled Marjorie’s mortal remains and cremated her in alignment with her wishes.
A Memorial Service for Marge will be held on August 27th, 2023 at 1:30pm at her church – Trinity Episcopal Church, 611 W Berry St, Fort Wayne, IN 46802. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the charity of your choice.
