Karen Jo Grant

Karen Jo (Gongwer) Grant was called from her life on Earth to be with her heavenly Father on Thursday, May 23rd at 4:18 pm, surrounded by her loving family.  

She was born on September 5th, 1950 to Donald and Elizabeth (Meichsner) Gongwer in Fort Wayne, IN. 

Karen was a 1968 graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School. She married Thomas Grant on June 18th, 1983 at their home in Fort Wayne, IN. She was an accomplished seamstress, and especially passionate about making clothing for living history. She loved the written word often getting lost in books. She loved her family with all her heart and never had a friend who didn't become family to her. When Karen Jo put her mind to something, she was an unstoppable and tenacious force. Her hugs were legendary, as she hugged with her entire being, the kind of hug that touches heart and soul. She had an avid love and compassion for animals large and small.

Karen is survived by her husband Thomas, her two daughters, Kathryn (Josh) Grubaugh, Jessica Klaus and her bonus children and grandchildren Thom (Angie) Grant, Tracey (Victor) Castleman and their children Skylar and Callista. Her sister Nancy (Jerry) Singleton, nephew Joseph Futrell, great nieces Reagan and Emerson Futrell, great nephew Charles (Kylie) Futrell and her newest little love, Beau Futrell. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Vicki Gongwer and nephew, Jason Futrell. 

Karen's wish was to be cremated. Her preferred memorials are to:
