Johnnie Carmichael

Johnnie Ray Carmichael, age 96, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Greystone Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne. Mr. Carmichael was born in Whiting, Indiana on February 17, 1926 to the late Harley Everet and Hazel Lena (Anderson) Carmichael. He married Lorraine Phyllis Allen in 1952 and she preceded him in death in 2007.  Johnnie was a carpenter and member of the Carpenter’s Union in Chicago. He also was part owner of C&S Lumber of Avilla and he attended Destiny Family of Faith in Kendallville.

Survivors include:
Daughter, Beverly and Don Henderson of Avon. 
Son-in-law, Stephen Helmkamp of Avilla.
Nine grandchildren including: Autumn and Tom Brown of Winston Salem, North Carolina; Amber Helmkamp of Indianapolis; Ashley Helmkamp of Winston Salem, North Carolina; Stephen Jay Helmkamp and Misty Easterday of Avilla; Amanda Carmichael of Wabash; Anthony and Beth Carmichael of Logansport; Brad Henderson, Jennifer Henderson and Scott Henderson. 
Sister, Sharon Garringer of Fort Wayne.
Sister, Kathryn Neal of Clearwater, Florida.
Brother, Phillip and Lila Carmichael of Logansport. 
Former spouse, Louise Gretsinger of Avon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Hazel Carmichael; wife, Lorraine Carmichael; granddaughter, Jada Perry in 1971; daughter, Laura Ann Helmkamp on April 21, 2018; son, Johnnie Wayne Carmichael in 1996; daughter, Diane Lynn Sanders in 1971; son, Gilbert J. Sanders in 2014; sisters, Ruby Frederick, Mary Akers, Joanne Potter and Shirley Tipton; brothers, William Cletus “Clete” Carmichael, Norman Carmichael, Kenneth Carmichael, Harley Gene Carmichael, Jack Carmichael, and Donald Carmichael. 

Visitation will be held Monday, March 21, 2022 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Hite Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Albaugh officiating.
Burial will follow at  Avilla Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Destiny Family of Faith.
