Irene (Slone) Short

Mathew 25:36 “I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.” 

Irene went home to be with Jesus on September 20, 2021. She was born in Pippa Passes, Kentucky to the late Arland and Jezzie Slone. She married Dewey on August 11, 1962. They knew each since they were small children and spent nearly all their lives together. Irene never met a stranger. She loved everyone just as the Lord said she should. She literally would have given anything to anyone who asked for it or needed it. She was loved by all, but especially little children. Irene knew no greater love than her love for the Lord and her love for her family. She worried about her family and kept them diligently in her prayers. Irene was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2002. Her husband, Dewey, worked with her to keep her active and she did well with the disease until he passed in October of 2020. Although Irene loved her family she longed to go home after his passing. 

Irene is survived by her son, Ritchie Short; her daughter, Sheila Short Burke (Jacob); grandson, Dakota Short; granddaughter, Ashley Short; brothers, Arland Slone (Leisha), Ray Slone (Tincia), Orbin Slone (Janice), Robert Slone (Angie); sister, Arlene Slone West and a slew of nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Dewey Short; her dad, Arland Slone; her mother, Jezzie Ann Slone; brothers, Jack Slone, Monroe Slone and Elis Slone and sisters, Elsie, Helen, Bonnie, Opal, Sue and Herma Jean; nephews: Larry Tomas, Doyle Dean Tomas and Jackie Slone.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 24, 2021 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church in Lisbon.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Little Flossie Church with calling 9:00 AM before the service.
Burial will follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Waynedale.
