Harold Mahn Egolf, age 97, passed away October 29, 2024, at his residence near Kendallville. Harold was born in Churubusco, Indiana on December 17, 1926, to the late Samuel Jay Egolf and Olive Florence (Smit) Egolf. He graduated from Churubusco High School in 1944 and entered into the United States Army where he honorably served his country in Japan under General MacArthur during World War II. He married Alice Jeanette Whan on May 16, 1969, at the Hudson United Methodist Church. Alice preceded him in death on January 20, 2007. Harold was employed by International Harvester. He enjoyed fishing when he was younger. His favorite pastime was sitting on the deck, petting the dogs and watching the birds and wildlife.
Survivors include:
Harold's caregivers, Larry and Laurie Morrow of Kendallville and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Olive Egolf; his wife, Alice; his son, Harold Egolf, Jr., who died in 1968; three sisters, Marvel, Garnet, and an infant sister; and four brothers, Alton "Pete" Egolf, Allen Egolf, Nile Egolf, and Roger Egolf.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. The funeral will be officiated by Pastor Valarie Kline from Pleasant Chapel Church of The Brethren, Ashley.
Burial with military honors will take place at Circle Cemetery near Hudson.
