Eugene "Gene" Franklin Weber

Gene Weber of Decatur, Indiana went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2024, at Adams Memorial Hospital. Gene was born August 17, 1935, to Clarence and Helena (Etzler) Weber, both of whom predecease him. He married Beverly A. (Isnogle) Weber on August 25, 1961.

In addition to his wife, Bev, Gene is survived by his 3 children, Joyce (Kevin) Price of Dayton, Ohio, Daniel (Karen Wyss) Weber of Decatur, Indiana, and Steven (Michael Satterfield) Weber of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His sister Ruth Mae (Weber) Heffelmire of Atlanta, Indiana and his brother Donald Weber of South Carolina both survive, and he was predeceased by one sister Delores (Weber) Rumple.

Gene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur, Indiana.  He was previously a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Preble, Indiana for over 80 years. Gene was a retired farmer and also retired from the Adams County Highway Department after 26 years of service. Gene served for 12 years in the Indiana Air National Guard at Fort Wayne, Indiana. During the Berlin Wall Crisis, from 1961-1962, he was called to active duty and was stationed at Chambley AB in France and Wheelus AB in Libya. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Decatur, Indiana.

Gene volunteered as a fireman with the Preble Volunteer Fire Department. He was one of the founding committee members to plan and develop the Preble Fireman's Park. Gene also coordinated tractor pulls at the park and was active in tractor pulling for many years. Gene participated in several antique tractor clubs and the Berne Swiss Heritage Society, as well as shows and parades. He was also active in the Adams County Soil and Water Conservation District, Adams County Coop, Adams County Planning Commission, and the Adams County Board of Zoning Appeals.  

Gene could sometimes be found weaving rugs or quilting in his wife's quilt shop, and he also participated in many quilt shows. In his spare time, Gene immensely enjoyed attending activities and games of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 23, at Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur, Indiana including military honors by American Legion Post 43 Color Guard, with Pastor Zach Oedewaldt officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to the Preble Volunteer Fire Department, Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur, American Legion Post 43 Color Guard, or Worship Anew.
