Edward Weerts Obituary

By the grace of God Edward Robert Weerts received the crown of eternal life on April 17, 2020.

Edward, the youngest child of Frank and Ida (Eichmann) Weerts, was born on May 12, 1921, at Wentworth, South Dakota. His elementary education was at St. Peter Lutheran School, Wentworth, South Dakota. He was confirmed in the Christian faith on Palm Sunday, 1935. He continued his education at Wentworth Public High School, graduating in 1939. Edward attended Concordia Teachers College, Seward, Nebraska, receiving a Lutheran Teacher Diploma in 1942. He continued his education in summer sessions and received his bachelor's degree in 1957. He completed his Master of Arts in Administration degree at Concordia Teachers' College, River Forest, Illinois in 1974. His teaching career and school principalship, spanning 43 years, included positions at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osmond, Nebraska (42-44), St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown, Iowa (44-47), Trinity Lutheran Church, (Deer Creek township) Fort Dodge, Iowa (47-54), St. Paul Lutheran Church, (Rost township) Lakefield, Minnesota (54-59), Gethsemane Lutheran Church, St. Paul, MN (59-74), and St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, MN (74-85). Edward retired in 1985 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Edward married Margaret Julia Dicke on July 16, 1944, at Long Prairie, MN. Edward and Margaret had four children, Jon David (Gail), Gretchen Louise Young (James), Joel Edward (Gretchen), and Luke Alan (Christine). In addition, there are grandchildren: Peter Weerts (deceased in 2011), Marta Lewis(Drew), Christopher Young, Matthew Weerts, Andrew Weerts (Samantha), and Jason Grebasch (Sarah). Jackson Grebasch, Remy Lewis and Inger Lewis are great grandchildren. His life has been a life of service due to the gracious mercy and love of the Lord. Edward was preceded in death by Margaret, his wife of 74 years.

Those remaining to celebrate this gracious entrance to eternal life are his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends in the many places in which God so graciously permitted him to serve.
