Edna (Frye) Metoyer

June 28, 1931 ~ September 20, 2022 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Edna Metoyer Obituary

Edna M. Metoyer, 91 years old, departed this life on Tuesday September 20, 2022.  She was born in Richmond VA., the middle child to the late William Daniel Frye and Edomonia F. Brooks on June 28, 1931.  Edna had two brother, William (Willie) Daniel Frye and Dr. Rev Everette W. Frye SR, both deceased.  She went to Richmond VA public schools and graduated from Armstrong High School.  Edna went to Virginia Union University and graduated as a medical Technologist.  She had a daughter, Gail L. Morris from her 1st marriage.  Edna remarried and moved to Fort Wayne, IN in 1960 and they adopted a son Theodore M. Carroll III in 1968.

She worked at Lutheran Hospital on Fairfield Ave and moved with them to W. Jefferson Blvd until Edna retired in 1997.  A year before her 3rd husband passed.  She also had worked at Duemling Clinic (the site of Courtyard Apartments now), also the MLK Montessori School.  Edna was a greeter at Meijer’s on Illinois Rd for five years.  She was also involved with the Sea Cadets with her son T.C.

Her second family was the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority which she was very active for seventy-two years.  Edna was a charter member in October 11, 1974, of the Eta Upsilon Zeta chapter in Fort Wayne, IN and Lamda Rho Zeta chapter in Pontiac, MI January 22, 1983.  Holding various offices in both chapters.  Dove Metoyer was also the 6th Indiana State Director 1986-1992.  She also was the Dove Coordinator (responsible for coordinating members who have 50 plus years of service to the sorority in their region).  She held this position up to her passing, Because of Dove

Edna’s commitment she was also recognized through her status as a Golden Life Member.  Dove Metoyer was committed, attending conferences at the State, Regional, and National levels.  Her daughter had taken her to quite a few out of town conferences when she needed help because of her health and she still wanted to go.  She was considered an honorary member.  Dove Edna went to the Centennial Celebration in Washington, D.C. in January 2020.  Just in August she attended a virtual chapter Retreat/Strategic Planning Meeting.  Dove Metoyer was a cherished sister, mentor and friend to many within their Blue 7 white Family of Zetas, Sigimas, Amicae (Friends) and youth.  Dove Metoyer’s spirit will continue to guide them as they carry on her Legacy of Leadership, Wisdom, Knowledge and Love for Zeta.  

Those who will cherish her memory are her daughter Gail L. Morris, her son Theodore M. Carroll III, her God daughter Venesta Compton of Fort Wayne, IN God daughter Genie Schwartz(Mark) Decatur, IN grandchildren Kanika Carr (Mark) Fort Wayne, IN Carl Morris (Sarena) Corpus Cristi, TX Ashley Carroll, Aleece Davis(Mitchell) Arkansas God grandson Bobby Compton Fort Wayne, IN God granddaughter Nikki Overton (Andrew) Fort Wayne, IN great grandchildren Donovan Carr (Brittany) Atlanta, GA Chris Clark III Lewisville, TX Christian Clark Fort Wayne, IN De Jrick Compton New York, NY great great grandchildren 11, 2 more coming soon, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, 5 great nieces, 1 great-great nephew, 2 sister-in-law’s, and a host of extended family &many friends. Three God grandchildren: Darrion Jackson of Fort Wayne; Louis Overton of Sacramento, California; Malaia Jackson of Los Angeles, California.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Greater Progressive Baptist Church, 2215 John Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana with visitation from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
