Donald Robert Thompson, age 73, of Kendallville, passed away in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. He was born in LaGrange, Indiana, on September 16, 1951, to the late John Henry Thompson and Jean Joan (Garver) Volker. Don grew up in Fort Wayne, graduated from Northside High School in 1969, and honorably served his country in the United States Army 1970-72 in during the Vietnam War. He married Patricia Maxine McBride on April 13, 1991 in South Milford, Indiana. He retired from Stoops Freightliner in 2013. Don enjoyed golfing, driving bus for East Noble High School activities, and attending his grandchildren’s events. He was also highly involved with his church and AA. He will truly be missed for his humor, positivity, his guidance, and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Don is survived by his wife, Pat Thompson of Kendallville.
Daughter, Robin Ritchie of Kendallville.
Daughter, Susan and Luke Hughes of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Erin and Anthony Jimenez of South Milford.
Nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Sister, Kathy and Denny Donaldson of Fort Wayne.
Sister, Kitty and Rich Conkling of Fort Wayne.
Sister, Deanna Klein of Hanna City, Illinois.
A sister, Jeri Thompson preceded him in death along with his parents.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 PM, Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville, with military honors and a funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM. Rev. Drew Baker will officiate the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made in Don's name to AA of Rome City or Trinity Church United Methodist of Kendallville.
Burial will take place at a later date at Marion National Cemetery.
