Daniel Sweet Obituary

Daniel Merlin Sweet, age 71, of Hamilton, IN, passed away, surrounded by family, December 25, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.  Mr. Sweet was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on December 17, 1954, to Jack Evard Sweet and Rose Irene (Stemmler) Sweet. His father preceded him in death in 1982. 

He honorably served his country for 22 years serving in the United States Marine Corps for 2 years and the United States Army for 20 years before retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer II (CW2). Mr. Sweet was a U.S. Army military police officer and later appointed Special Agent with the Army's CID. As part of his military career, he served overseas in the 1991 Persian Gulf War, the 1993 Operation Restore Hope in Somalia, and multiple tours of duty in Korea. Following his retirement from the military, Daniel continued working in other U.S. government and private sector positions, focusing on national security background investigations for the federal government. He retired from his last position as a program director with KeyPoint Government Solutions in 2014.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Military Officers Association of America, and the CID Agents Association. He married Oh, Song Kun on September 16, 1977, in Seoul, Korea. She preceded him in death in 2013. 

He is survived by his mother, Rose Sweet of Fort Wayne; brothers, Steven Sweet of Montgomery, IN and Michael Sweet of Monroeville, IN; sisters, Kimberly Judge and Julie Sweet of Fort Wayne; and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members both here and in South Korea. 

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville, with visitation at 12:00 PM.  Interment with full military honors will take place at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.  At Arlington National Cemetery, he will be at rest joining his loving wife, Song K. Sweet.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be directed to support veterans. Suggested organizations include Disabled American Veterans or Paralyzed Veterans of America with a memo that this gift is in memory of Daniel M. Sweet, CW2.
