Connie (Hisey) DeWald

Connie Annita (Hisey) DeWald, age 74, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Mrs. DeWald was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on February 2, 1948 to the late Howard Alan Hisey and Billie Faye (Pearce) Hisey. She graduated from Hueneme High School in California in 1967 and Ventura College School of Nursing in 1968. She married Michael Elvin DeWald on March 18, 1967 in Port Hueneme, California and he preceded her in death on May 12, 2020. Connie began her working career as a registered nurse in 1968 at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne. She also helped her husband manage DeWald Lawn Service and DeWald Excavating from 1976 until she retired in 2003. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Lake Township where she served on the stewardship committee, finance committee and church council. She also was a member of the Parent Teacher Organization, Carroll High School Booster Club, and John Deere tractor clubs with her husband, Michael. She most loved spending time with her family but also enjoyed cross stitch, puzzles, gardening, camping, music, horseback riding and line dancing. 

Survivors include:
Son, Kevin and Kimberly DeWald of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Michelle and Chad Sutton of Andalusia, Alabama.
Five grandchildren including: Kameron DeWald, Kaden DeWald and Kailey DeWald all of Fort Wayne; Bailey Sutton of Fort Wayne; and Garrett Sutton of Indianapolis. 
Brother, Jimmie and Laura Hisey of Fort Wayne.
Brother, Lonnie and Laura Pace of Katy, Texas.
Brother, Gary and Karen Pace of Spring Branch, Texas.
Sister, Nancy and Daniel Cloud of Weatherford, Texas.
Brother-in-law, John Smith of Portland, Texas.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Pamela Smith in 2014.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 18, 2022 from 2:00 -8:00 PM at St. John Lutheran Church, Lake Township, 7914 West Cook Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana. 
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, Lake Township with Rev. Douglas Schoelles officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne. Her son, Kevin; son-in-law, Chad and her grandchilden, Kameron, Kaden, Kailey, Bailey and Garrett will carry her casket. 
Memorial donations may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
