Betty Gotsch Obituary

Betty June Gotsch, age 94, of Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Lutheran Life Village Pine Valley in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Gotsch was born June 26, 1927 in Knox, Indiana, the daughter of Paul Douglass Corey and Pauline Jane (Guthrie) Corey.  In 1948, she married Marcus Anton Gotsch.  She was a loving wife and mother to her 6 children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Betty loved her family first and foremost. Her most important role in life was as a wife and mother. She had a strong Christian faith and was very active for many years at St Paul’s Lutheran Church. She served on the Altar Guild, Outreach Ministry, was a member of the Ladies’ Aid Society, and helped serve funeral dinners.  After her husband’s death in 1996, Betty attended a grief support group and eventually led the group, offering support and encouragement to others grieving the loss of their spouses. Betty was a gifted seamstress and sewed many clothing items for her family. She helped her youngest daughter Cheryl create a lovely wedding gown. She was known for being very thrifty and making food stretch to feed a family of 8.  Betty loved babysitting for her grandchildren and could often be found pointing out birds and other wildlife to her grandkids. She also had a great love for flower and vegetable gardening and always had a bountiful harvest. Her roses and irises were the prettiest on the block and she loved sharing starts from her flowers with family and friends. Family tree shows that her descendants came over on the Mayflower.

She is survived by her children: Dr. Gary (Debbie) Gotsch, Donald (Diane) Gotsch, June Daly, Keith (Susan) Gotsch, Cheryl (Rex) Hazelet, daughter-in-law, Diana Gotsch, also 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Marcus Gotsch; son, Mark Edwin Gotsch; and her siblings Hannah, Louetta, Helen, Clara, Paul “Pete”, and Eugene.
