Ronald Gregory Costa, age 78, died Friday, March 8, 2019 at Grey Stone Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne. Ronald was born on July 21, 1940 in New Eagle, PA and was the oldest of five siblings. He was proceeded in death by his mother Josephine M. Costa, father Gregory A. Costa, and youngest sibling Gregory Costa. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, two sisters, Kathleen (Orr) Costa, Barbara (Pearce) Costa and one brother, Robert Costa.
Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army in 1958 and spent thirteen months in Korea and the remainder of his enlistment at Fort Lee, VA. When discharged he enrolled in college to become a school teacher, receiving a B.S. degree in elementary education with a minor in special education. He taught for several years in Western Pennsylvania and decided to further his education by getting a Master of Arts degree in special education and elementary education. He accepted a teaching position in Fort Wayne Community Schools where he taught for thirty-two years before retiring in June 1999. While teaching, he did post graduate work and received an endorsement as a school counselor.
Ronald and Margaret had two children, Chad and Angela, and two grandchildren, Andrea and Aaron. Chad is married to Stacy (Gallinat) Costa.
Ron enjoyed landscaping, gardening, reading, working on the computer, collecting marbles, memorabilia from Super Bowls and volunteering for various organizations. He was a 3rd degree Knight and a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Hope where time was spent in the St. Vincent DePaul Society helping clients needing assistance and as Secretary of this organization. Ron also belonged to the American Legion Post #240 in Avilla, IN.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 14, 2019 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, 7215 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 10:30 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Rd., Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Burial will take place at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Memorial donations may be given to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Association or Heart to Heart Hospice.
