Roger A. Wissman, 78, passed away peacefully October 8th at The Towne House Retirement Community in Fort Wayne.  Born in Rural New Haven, Roger developed a keen interest in agriculture at an early age and became active in the local 4-H club, titled the Clodbusters.  He pursued this interest at Purdue University, graduating with a degree in Animal Science and later funded a scholarship for agricultural students.  He received his Master's Degree in agricultural studies from Oregon State University and then continued this interest for 35 years as an economist for the Department of Agriculture specializing in providing advice and guidance to agricultural co-ops throughout the country.  Roger lived in Alexandria and Annandale, Virginia, for the past 55 years and was an active member of First Trinity Lutheran Church in Washington DC, serving as Treasurer for many years.  A veteran of the Air Force Air National Guard, he was called to duty and stationed in France.  Roger had wide spread interests.  While at OSU he became a supporter of their Marine Mammal Biology research into whales and went on several trips to observe whales in Baja, California, Antartica, and the South Pacific.  He also enjoyed train travel, bird watching, ballooning, nature conservancy of all kinds, baseball, and spending time with his family in their Naples, Florida, villa.  A generous person, Roger could be counted on for supporting many organizations and causes with both time and money.  Roger is survived by his twin sister, Rita Wissman of New Haven, brother, Neal (Sharon) Wissman of Fort Wayne, brother, Kenneth (Mary Ellen) Wissman of Southborough, MA, long-time friend, Vicki Herrmann of McLean, VA, and nephews, Steven (Barbara) Wissman of Cape Coral, FL, Mark Wissman of Fort Wayne, and James (LuAnn) of Verona, WI.  He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Marguerite Wissman of New Haven.  A Funeral service is scheduled for 10:30am, Wednesday, October 18 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven with calling 1 hour prior to the service.  Memorials may be given to First Trinity Lutheran Church, 309 E St. NW, Washington, DC 20001, Oregon State University Marine Mammal Institute or Parkview Hospice.  Arrangements entrusted to Northern Indiana Funeral Care of Fort Wayne.
