Melvin Leo McCrea

Melvin Leo McCrea, age 94, died Friday, March 10, 2017 at Genesis Healthcare in New Haven, Indiana.  Mr. McCrea was born in Auburn, Iowa on September 11, 1922 to the late Perry and Blandina (Schulte) McCrea. He graduated from Goshen High School in 1938.  In 1942, he entered the United States Army during WWII and honorably served his country until 1945.  Upon returning from the war, he married Alice Irene Artusi on June 1, 1946 in St. Bavo’s Catholic Church in Mishawaka, Indiana. He began his college career at Tri State University on Angola and graduated in 1950 with a degree in electrical engineering. Melvin was an electronics engineer with Magnavox.  He retired in 1988 after 24 years of service.  He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven since 1959 and the V.F.W. Post 2457, New Haven and the American Legion.

Survivors include:
Daughter, Janet McComb of New Haven.
Daughter, Vickie Turner of New Haven.
Granddaughter, Gina (John) Atkison of Fort Wayne.
Great grandsons, Brandon and Cameron Atkinson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice in 2005; grandson, Scott McComb in March of 2005; two brothers, Terrance “Terry” McCrea and James McCrea; two sisters, LaVola Dombrowski and Marian Makin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers Street, New Haven, Indiana with calling one hour prior to the funeral mass. Father Bill Sullivan will preside over the funeral mass.
Burial with military honors will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, New Haven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Salvation Army or Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana.
