Margaret Watson Griffith Gilmour Smith, 84, of Fort Wayne, Indiana died Monday, January 6, 2020 at Signature HealthCARE Nursing Home. She was born November 14, 1935 in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland to Jon Orr Gilmour & Evelyn Sarah Griffith. On April 2 1962, she married Thomas Edwin Smith of Fort Wayne in Greenock, Scotland while he was stationed with Navy vessel USS Proteus in Holy Loch, Dunoon, Argyll, Scotland. She moved to the United States in 1968 with along with Thomas and her two young sons. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, bingo and socializing. She worked in a can factory while in Scotland but was a homemaker for most of her life.
She is survived by two sons, David E. and Ellen (Rice) Smith of Fort Wayne and John C. and Heather (Harden) Smith of Avilla. Also surviving are her sister, Evelyn Gilmour Ott of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, Ian and Jae Smith of Avilla; and two step-grandchildren, Elijah W. and Jolene (Gipe) Stewart of Columbia City; and Ashley R. (Stewart) and Homero Gonzalez, and three great step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers Ian & Jim Gilmour, and sister Betty Gilmour all of Scotland.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Concordia Cemetery Gardens mausoleum chapel, 5300 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne with a funeral service following at 12:00 noon.
