GERALD L. “COONEY” COONROD, age 83, of Fort Wayne died on Monday, October 3, 2011 at Lutheran
Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Coonrod was born in Fort Wayne on July 23, 1928 to the late Leslie and Viola (Voril) Coonrod.
He honorabley served his country in the United States Army from 1951-53 and was a 34 year member of the
American Legion Post #330, New Haven.
He married Delores Pearl Oberley on May 15, 1956.
Cooney retired from International Harvestor and also was a foreman at Hoosier Wire in Fort Wayne for 20 years.
He was a real estate agent/broker for 30 years with Ramsey's Real Estate Agency.
Cooney will be long remembered as co-owner of the Hi-Ho Inn and Tavern near Poe, Indiana.
He was a long-time member of the Saint Joseph Catholic Church parrish near Fort Wayne.
Survivors include:
Wife, Delores (Oberley) Coonrod of Fort Wayne.
Son, Terry (Barb) Coonrod of Auburn.
Daughter, Sherry (Wayne) Spencer of Woodburn.
Daughter, Karen (Kenny) Coe of Fort Wayne.
Six grandchildren: Jeremy Coonrod of Fort Wayne, Mitchell Spencer of Harlan, Michael Spencer of Uniondale,
Son, Terry (Barb) Coonrod of Auburn.
Daughter, Sherry (Wayne) Spencer of Woodburn.
Daughter, Karen (Kenny) Coe of Fort Wayne.
Six grandchildren: Jeremy Coonrod of Fort Wayne, Mitchell Spencer of Harlan, Michael Spencer of Uniondale,
Melissa Coe of Antwerp, Ohio, Clint Woods and Angie Woods.

He was also preceded in death by a grandchild Anakin Coe, his sisters, Mary Ann Harvey, Maxine Love,
and LaDonna Maldeney and his brothers, Richard Coonrod and Leslie Coonrod, Jr.
Visitation and Funeral Mass will be Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 11337
Old Decatur Road, Fort Wayne. Friends may call before the funeral mass from 9:00-11:00 am at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am
Officiating the mass will be Fr. Thomas Lombardi.
Burial with military honors will be at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #330 Honor Guard.
Casketbearers will be Michael Spencer, Mitchell Spencer, Jeremy Coonrod, Austin Spencer, Randy Fluttrow, Danny Coonrod.
