Elmer J. Briggs

Elmer J. Briggs, 87 of Fort Wayne, Indiana went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at his home. He was born on June 2,1930 in Akron Ohio. He was the son of the late Elmer S. Briggs and Esther (Price) Briggs. He was proceeded in death by his brother, Theron E. Briggs.  Elmer attended North Side High School in Akron Ohio. After high school, he served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. After his discharge in 1952, he married Barbara Nicholson at the Akron Baptist Temple. He went to work at the Ohio Edison Electric Company.  In 1954, he decided to go back to college and they moved to Ft. Wayne Indiana where he attended Indiana Institute of Technology. He graduated from IIT in 1957 with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He then went to work for American Electric Power were he worked for 35 years. Upon his retirement from AEP he enjoyed traveling and playing golf with his wife and friends. One of his favorite activities to do in retirement was to spend time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Barbara (Nicholson)Briggs, his 2 daughters, Patrice(Jim) Cecchin of Gurnee, IL and Renee (Steve, deceased) Pryzybylsik. Five grandchildren, Alyssa and Elizabeth Cecchin, Kira, Lydia and Steven Pryzybylski.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church of New Haven, 1716 Werling Road, New Haven, Indiana with visitation 1 hour prior from 10:00am-11:00am.
Burial with military honors will take place at 2:30pm at Garden of Memories in Marion.  
Memorial donations may be directed to the Youth Fund of First Baptist Church of New Haven.
