WILLIE JAMES WITHERSPOON, age 65, of Fort Wayne, died on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at home. Mr. Witherspoon was born in Faunsdale, Alabama on June 24, 1949 to the late Richard Zimmerman and Lucy Witherspoon. He was raised by his aunt, Rachel Witherspoon, and she was like a mother to him. He married Kathryn Ann Gunkel on June 15, 1979 in Fort Wayne. Willie was an auto mechanic and employed over the years with Wattley's Auto Service, C&C Car Care, and Jones Auto Repair all of Fort Wayne.
Survivors include:
Wife, Kathryn Ann Witherspoon of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Irene Chandler of Uniontown, Alabama.
Daughter, Jamie Witherspoon of Fort Wayne.
Daughter, Jennifer Witherspoon of Fort Wayne.
Son, Willie Witherspoon, Jr. of Fort Wayne.
Six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
His aunt who was like a mother to him, Aunt Rachel Witherspoon of Uniontown, Alabama.
Special cousin, raised like a sister, Valencia Witherspoon of Uniontown.
Special cousin, Celia and Bud Vaughn of Fort Wayne.
Best friend, Guy Chumney of Fort Wayne.
Special co-worker, George Lee Jones of Fort Wayne.
Willie leaves many other family members and close friends behind.
Gathering of family and friends on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 4-7:00pm at Avalon Missionary Church, West Campus, 1500 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 1:00pm at Saint Peter Primitive Baptist Church, Uniontown, Alabama with visitation two hours prior to the service.
Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Curtis Witherspoon.
Burial will be at First Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Faunsdale, Alabama.
