Walter Alfred Rommel

Walter Alfred Rommel, age 63, passed into God’s loving arms on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at his residence in Fort Wayne.  Walter was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Sunday, August 16, 1953, son of the late Arthur Julius Rommel and Betty Lou (Papenbrock) Rommel. He married Debra Kay McNaney on June 19, 1976 at the Trinity United Methodist Church on Putnam Avenue in Fort Wayne.  He worked as an auto body repairman in Fort Wayne most of his life.  He also worked in the bakery at Sunbeam Bakery and Holsum Bakery both in Fort Wayne.  Walt and Deb volunteered many hours and many years together at Forest Park United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne.  He received the “Our Star Volunteer” award as a bag doubler, cardboard cutter, product sorter, and Star volunteer.  He attended the Waynedale Baptist Church in Fort Wayne.

Wife, Debra Kay (McNaney) Rommel of Fort Wayne.
Uncle, Bob Rommel of Fort Wayne.
Sister-in-law, Sandy and John Fackler of Fort Wayne.
Sister-in-law, Brenda and Lenny Hubbard of Houston, Texas.
Brother-in-law, Ron McNaney of Fort Wayne.
Niece, Jennifer and Rob Jones.
Great nieces, Delayna and Evelynn Jones. 
Several cousins including Michelle "Mimi" Rommel of Fort Wayne.
Best friend, Don Martin of Fort Wayne.
Good friend, Connie Ayres of Fort Wayne.

Walter was also preceded in death by his brother, Julius "Butch" Arthur Rommel; grandparents, Ohpa and Ohma Rommel; and aunt, Kathy Rommel.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Waynedale Baptist Church, 633 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne with Brother Wayne Gullion officiating. 
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church.
