RICHARD PAUL UMMEL, age 89, of Fort Wayne, died on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Englewood Healthcare, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mr. Ummel was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on June 4, 1925 to the late William Dewey Ummel and Vivian Mae (Raudabaugh) Ummel. He graduated from North Side High School in 1943 and entered the United States Navy to serve his country during WWII. He received his Master’s degree in education from Indiana University. He married Carole Anne Vaughn and she preceded him in death May 13, 2009. Richard was an elementary and middle school teacher with Fort Wayne Community Schools for 38 years. He was a member of the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 82 of Fort Wayne. Richard’s true passion life were antique clocks. He was a self taught clock maker and antique clock repairman. He owned and operated “The Old Clock Shop” from his home for many years. He also loved his dogs and he was a huge Chicago Cubs baseball and Indiana University basketball fan.
Survivors include:
Daughter, Pam and Mike Feldman of Dayton, Ohio.
Daughter, Darcy and Andrew Moses of Fort Wayne.
Son, Dick Ummel of Sarasota, Florida.
Son, Greg and Beverly Ummel of Fort Wayne.
Son, Jeremy Ummel of Fort Wayne.
6 grandchildren: David Feldman, Ryan Ummel, Nikki Ummel, Tessa Ummel, Dyllan and Ellyse Moses.
Sister, Joy Waldron of Montpelier, Ohio.
Brother, Robert Ummel of Fort Wayne.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Martha Radkoski; and his brothers, James and William Ummel.
Funeral mass will be Monday, June 1, 2015 at 10:00am at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 1515 Barthold Street Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.
Officiating the funeral service will be Fr. Joseph Gaughan.
Memorial donations may be made to the Allen County S.P.C.A. or to the Alzheimers Association.
