GEORGE WAYNE THOMPSON, 93 passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016 at his home. Born on March 27, 1923, he was the son of the late Harry and Ruth (Hartley) Thompson. He was a World War II Army veteran, member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, and Legion Post 330. He worked at U.S. Rubber, retired from the Fort Wayne Parks Department, was a retired Auctioneer, and was also known as “the tomato man” in New Haven.
Surviving are daughters; Judith (Phil) White of New Haven, Bonnie Metcalf of San Diego, CA, Cheryl Hitzemann of Corruna, Gloria (Desi) Santanna, of Kennewick, WA, and Victoria (Allen) Hauser, of Morenci, MI; sons Richard (Sue) Thompson of Terre Haute, Phillip Thompson and Timothy Thompson both of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; his sister, Margaret Harmeyer of Fort Wayne. George was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Leona O. (Witte) Thompson in 2008 and 7 siblings.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 800 Green Street, New Haven, with viewing one hour prior to service. There will also be viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 at the Church. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to Emanuel Lutheran Church, Parkview Hospice, or Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana.
