Dee W. Massey, born December 13, 1930 died September 26, 2016 at the age of 85 after a short battle with cancer.  Dee was born in Henrietta, OK and was the youngest of 7 siblings. He worked on the family farm until he joined the Navy in 1950.  After the Navy, he followed his dreams to Red Bluff, California where he met the love of his life June Richardson and they married in 1956.  That year he became a line-man for Pacific Bell Telephone Company and was blessed by the birth of his first daughter, Linda. A few years later they were transferred to the Sacramento area where they were blessed by the birth of their second daughter, Rebecca.  He lived and worked in the Sacramento area until the mid-1970’s and then transferred to Chico, California region where he completed 30 years of service until retirement and remained an honorary lifetime member of the Communication Workers of America.  Dee loved Northern California, he was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and tending his vegetable garden in the summer.  After several trips from California to Indiana to visit their daughter’s family, he and June decided it would be easier to spoil their grandson if they moved to Fort Wayne.  When not spoiling his grandson Chase, Dee loved bowling with friends, shooting pool, working out with weights, walking on his treadmill and raising a tomato garden in the summer.  Dee was a kind and gentle soul with everyone he met.  He will be missed.

Surviving family from Fort Wayne include: his true love Dardanella “June” Massey of 60 years in marriage; his daughter, Rebecca (Massey) Carter; son-in-law, Christian Carter; grandson, Chase Carter; foster son, Ian Wells; and granddaughters Katy and Kelly.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Massey; four sisters and three brothers.

Memorial services to be held this Saturday, October 1st at 2:00 pm with fellowship following the service at the Roanoke Baptist Church, 11015 Lafayette Center Road, Roanoke, Indiana 46783.  In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that a memorial donation can be made to Visiting Nurse, 5910 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46814.
