Alvin C. Griebel, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, November 24, 2016 now that the Cubs have won the World Series. The son of Martin and Amanda (Saalfrank) Griebel, he spent summers working on the Nahrwold farm, graduating from Central Catholic High School in Fort Wayne and always proud of his academic scores.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1951, proudly served in the Korean War and was the top scorer for his U.S.A.F. basketball team. He was an avid softball player, managing several teams and playing well into his 60's. He retired from Magnavox and liked to spend his free time at auctions, collecting and with family. He didn't know a stranger and was immensely proud of his grandchildren, Aimee (Paul) Johnson, Arin (Amanda) Spiller & Michael Parrish born to his oldest daughter Sharon Loshe and Kelsie (Taylor) Krieg born to his oldest son Scott (Marcy).
He is also survived by children Kathy Foster and Todd Griebel, in addition to sisters Helen Nahrwold & Marilyn (Ralph) Relue, and many nieces & nephews that were all such a joy in his life. His great grandchildren, Hank Borton, Juliana, Tyler & Sam Johnson and Xavier Krieg brought a smile to his face even during his last several years battling Alzheimer's. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Albert, Harry and Irvin Griebel; and sisters, Dorothy Pace and Mildred Hartman.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 7710 East State Blvd in Fort Wayne at 12:00 pm with visitation 2 hours prior.
